About The Position

The PCB Solder Technician I is responsible for performing basic soldering operations on printed circuit board assemblies in accordance with company workmanship standards, engineering documentation, and customer requirements. This role supports the assembly and repair of electronic products through hand soldering, touch-up, and minor rework activities while maintaining compliance with ESD and quality standards. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and a commitment to producing defect-free work are essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0–2 years of experience in electronics manufacturing, assembly, or soldering preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electronic components and printed circuit boards.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to perform repetitive detailed work while maintaining quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an ESD-controlled environment preferred.
  • IPC-A-610 and/or IPC J-STD-001 certification preferred but not required (company-provided training available).

Responsibilities

  • Perform hand soldering of through-hole electronic components on printed circuit board assemblies using approved tools and techniques.
  • Complete solder touch-up operations following wave soldering processes as required.
  • Install, replace, or remove electronic components in accordance with work instructions and engineering documentation.
  • Utilize soldering irons, desoldering equipment, and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Verify proper component orientation, polarity, and placement prior to soldering operations.
  • Maintain solder joints that meet applicable workmanship standards and company quality requirements.
  • Perform visual inspection of solder joints and assemblies to verify compliance with workmanship standards.
  • Identify common solder defects including insufficient solder, excessive solder, bridging, cold solder joints, and lifted leads.
  • Report quality concerns, damaged components, or assembly discrepancies to supervision.
  • Assist with correction of minor solder defects and rework activities as directed.
  • Follow work instructions, assembly drawings, travelers, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Accurately record completed operations and required production information.
  • Maintain traceability documentation and production records as required.
  • Ensure proper handling of ESD-sensitive components and assemblies throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation in accordance with 5S and department standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to soldering equipment, chemicals, fluxes, and ESD controls.
  • Properly maintain and care for assigned tools and equipment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and ESD protection at all times.
