About The Position

The SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an 11-month paid service opportunity for motivated community members to gain experience in the renewable energy and non-profit sectors while contributing to communities affected by environmental and economic injustice. GRID Alternatives is a leader in making clean, affordable solar power and jobs accessible to low-income communities and communities of color. The organization is entrepreneurial and high-growth, offering direct solar installation, project development, clean mobility options, workforce training, service learning, and policy advocacy. This full-time role supports the workforce team in developing and executing workforce development initiatives, including training community members in solar installation and employability skills, facilitating workshops, and providing placement support. Fellows gain transferable skills in solar installation and program management.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States (to be eligible for AmeriCorps)
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 11-month commitment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively
  • Comfortable being part of a team
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work outdoors, on rooftops, and in extreme temperatures
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, and helping families and communities in need.
  • Availability for an in-person Mid-Year weeklong Career Readiness Retreat in California

Nice To Haves

  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong computer skills such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite

Responsibilities

  • Assist in teaching solar and clean energy workshops and labs
  • Attend local events to promote community awareness of GRID’s training programs
  • Assist in recruiting and selecting trainees, and follow up if needed
  • Assist in trainee installation days
  • Support in the creation and documentation of required documents (e.g., DAC-SASH projects, IREC Accreditation)
  • Participate in solar installations
