About The Position

Better Earth is a residential solar installation company committed to making clean energy accessible for homeowners across California and Florida. We're growing fast and looking for motivated people to join our field operations team. The Site Surveyor is responsible for conducting pre-installation residential site assessments to ensure accurate project design and a smooth installation process. This role serves as the critical link between the sales team and the installation crew — verifying site conditions, capturing measurements, identifying potential challenges, and ensuring every project is set up for success before it reaches the install team.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in residential solar site surveys, construction estimating, or related field assessments
  • Familiarity with residential roofing systems, electrical panels, and basic structural components
  • Ability to safely access rooftops and work at heights using proper fall protection
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Comfortable using tablets, smartphones, and survey/design software
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability to work independently and manage a daily route of site visits
  • Strong communication skills — professional interaction with homeowners

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with solar design software
  • Knowledge of NEC code requirements for residential solar installations
  • Familiarity with local AHJ permitting requirements in California
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience with residential electrical systems or MPU (Main Panel Upgrade) assessments

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed on-site residential solar assessments including roof measurements, structural evaluation, and shading analysis
  • Capture accurate photos, measurements, and site data using industry tools (e.g., SolarEdge Designer, Aurora Solar, Suneye, or similar)
  • Evaluate electrical panels (main service panel, sub-panels) for capacity and upgrade requirements
  • Assess roof condition, type, pitch, orientation, and structural integrity for solar readiness
  • Identify potential obstructions, shading issues, setback requirements, and utility access points
  • Document attic access, rafter spacing, roof penetration feasibility, and conduit routing paths
  • Verify site conditions match the original sales proposal and flag any discrepancies
  • Communicate findings clearly to the design and engineering team for accurate system design
  • Coordinate with homeowners to schedule and complete site visits professionally
  • Ensure all survey documentation meets company standards and local AHJ requirements
  • Support permitting efforts by providing accurate site data and photos as needed
  • Travel to multiple residential job sites daily within the assigned branch territory
