About The Position

The Solar PV Technology Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for the selection, design, construction, and operational processes for EDPR’s solar PV power plants. The person in this role will work with the Head of the Department of Solar to maximize efficiency and manage technological risks at assigned solar power plants. Develop the Solar PV technological intelligence of EDP in renewable activity and provide projects with expertise by delivering specialized engineering support and technical assistance ensuring excellence and risk mitigation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Math, Physics, Chemistry, or similar from an accredited educational institution or Master’s degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years in the Solar PV energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Solar PV modules technologies, including crystalline (PERC, TOPCon, HJT, back‑contact) and emerging technologies, with strong understanding of performance drivers, degradation mechanisms, reliability risks, and bankability considerations.
  • Solid knowledge of PV module quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) frameworks, including manufacturing process control, quality management systems, inspection plans, FAT/SAT, and compliance with international standards (IEC, UL, IECRE).
  • Proven experience in supplier homologation and technical qualification processes, including assessment of manufacturing capabilities, product validation, quality systems, certifications, factory audits, and ongoing supplier performance monitoring.
  • Good technical understanding of PV inverters, mounting/racking systems, and overall BoS engineering, including interfaces with PV modules, system integration aspects, and construction implications.
  • Good understanding of technical and commercial terms related to PV capital equipment procurement, including performance guarantees, warranties, liquidated damages (LDs), reliability clauses, and risk allocation mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of North American technical regulations, codes, and standards applicable to utility‑scale PV projects.
  • High proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerBI, for technical analysis, reporting, and data‑driven decision support.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and quantitative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the definition, application, and continuous development of main solar PV equipment technologies, ensuring technical robustness, market alignment, and supplier capability across projects and regions.
  • Provide on‑demand technical support to Solar PV Business Development and M&A activities by contributing to early‑stage technical due diligence and opportunity assessment, evaluating PV technologies.
  • Acting as a technical support interface for Engineering, BD, and M&A teams to provide input on technical risks, deviations, and equipment selection, supporting informed, value‑driven, and bankable investment decisions throughout the screening and acquisition processes.
  • Act as the technical focal point for suppliers and OEMs across all stages of the supplier relationship, particularly for PV modules.
  • Lead and manage the technical homologation of suppliers and their products, particularly for PV modules, including assessment of technology maturity, compliance with technical standards, manufacturing capabilities, quality systems, and alignment with EDP’s technical requirements.
  • Provide specialized technical support to solar power plant engineering design activities across development, FEED, and detailed design phases, supporting optimized and bankable PV plant configurations, the preparation of BoS RFPs, and the technical evaluation of proposals, ensuring design assumptions aligned with established engineering standards and enabling competitive, efficient, and cost‑effective solutions.
  • Support Asset Operations teams in defining technical solutions to minimize asset downtime, improve availability, and enhance long‑term reliability of PV plants.
  • Represent EDPR to agencies and institutions, public and private, in matters relating to its jurisdiction to enforce the interests of EDPR.
