About The Position

EPTCON Technical Services Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Solar Operations Technician to join our team at a utility-scale solar power plant in Cayuga, Ontario. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the solar facility, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. This is an on-site position that offers the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge renewable energy project while contributing to sustainable energy solutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical operations and maintenance, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic equipment, including solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, protection systems, and monitoring/control technologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with utility-scale solar power plants or renewable energy facilities (solar, wind, hydro) is preferred but not a requirement
  • Relevant certifications in electrical safety, operations and maintenance, high-voltage systems, or renewable energy are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate solar power plant systems to ensure continuous and efficient energy production.
  • Perform regular inspections and diagnostic tests on inverters, transformers, PV modules, and other plant equipment.
  • Identify and address issues or faults in the solar array, electrical systems, or monitoring equipment promptly.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance on all plant equipment, including inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Implement and follow a scheduled maintenance plan to maximize plant availability and performance.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and any corrective actions taken.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and standards, always ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Maintain and update safety certifications.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections, reporting any potential hazards or safety concerns to management.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues, working closely with engineering teams as needed.
  • Prepare detailed reports on plant performance, maintenance activities, and equipment status.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and engineers to optimize plant operations and implement improvements.
  • Work professionally and effectively with clients, stakeholders, and other team members.
  • Provide clear communication regarding plant status, ongoing activities, and any issues encountered.
  • Ensure all client requirements and expectations are met, maintaining high standards of service delivery.
