About The Position
CMTA, a Legence company, is seeking a Solar Engineer Intern/Co-op for Summer 2027. CMTA is a rapidly growing engineering firm recognized for its expertise in sustainable, high-performance building engineering. The Energy Solutions division specializes in Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs), which allow for budget-neutral or budget-positive facility upgrades by redirecting utility spending towards improvements. CMTA has extensive experience in designing energy-efficient and zero-energy buildings. The robust co-op program offers college students pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree an immersive, hands-on experience in ESPCs, working collaboratively with full-time engineers under the supervision of Professional Engineers. The program is designed to develop students into full-time employees and offers challenging projects with valuable experiences in identifying energy savings measures, developing renovation documents, and gaining field experience. Solar co-ops will gain hands-on experience with photovoltaic systems and will be capable of delivering a full photovoltaic design from scratch by the end of the program, directly supporting solar project managers.
Requirements
- Pursuing a BSEE, preferably a sophomore (2nd year), or junior (3rd year)
- CAD experience is helpful but not required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Ability to travel for field work
- Current work authorization in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of the project development phase – including site visits, building audits, energy calculations in relation to PV arrays
- Generate energy models and perform calculations to evaluate feasibility of energy savings measures such as PV arrays
- Produce detailed construction documents using CAD for new PV arrays
- Field verify proper installation and implementation of PV array
