About The Position

The AES Corporation, a Fortune 500 company leading the global energy revolution, is seeking an experienced Solar Technician II for the Bellefield Solar + Storage Project. This role is crucial for ensuring AES CE operates its portfolio to exceed industry best-practice standards. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter capable of building, training, and leading field personnel. This position offers significant professional growth opportunities as AES CE expands. The role is based at the Bellefield Solar project in Mojave, CA, and requires candidates to reside in the general Lancaster/Mojave/Tehachapi area of California, with daily commute using their own transportation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two or more years of experience as an Energy Storage O&M (Operations & Maintenance) technician.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in power generation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals (single craft journeyman skills) such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and electrical theory application.
  • Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities.
  • Experience with electrical systems and familiarity of basic safety principles including LOTO and Electrical Safety.
  • Experience operating a personal computer with technical proficiency in standard business software.
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative, multi-functional, and geographically diverse organization.
  • Maturity, professionalism, and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing with superiors and colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree or Solar certification.
  • Experience with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is highly recommended.
  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 10 and NFPA 70e Certifications.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 855.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assigned O&M activities associated with the solar PV sites and substations of the utility-scale Solar Energy Plants in Southern California (Kern County, Antelope Valley, Victor Valley areas).
  • Performs/assists with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for equipment including Inverters (SMA, Advanced Energy, Power Electronics, EATON, TMEIC, SunGrow, Solectria), Trackers (NEXTracker & ATI), Combiner Boxes, PV Modules, DC Collection equipment and systems, AC Collection and Distribution equipment and systems.
  • Performs/assists with routine maintenance work (electrical repair, instrumentation, calibration, basic Inverter troubleshooting) as assigned and advised by supervisor and work orders.
  • Prepares and implements switching and clearance orders.
  • Operates electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
  • Participates in required training.
  • Performs/assists with technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a power plant.
  • May assist with site vegetation management plans, including operating tractors, riding mowers, and other vegetation maintenance equipment.
  • Writes/assists with Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions, and other documents as assigned.
  • Ensures work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
  • May perform work independently and/or in work crews, depending on skills and experience.
