About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Sex Offender Investigative Unit Compliance Officer (SOIU) in Region 3 covering Buckingham, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland, Louisa and Powhatan. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Supporting statewide public safety initiatives by conducting field-based sex offender verifications and ensuring timely, accurate updates to the Virginia Sex Offender Management System (VSOMS). Ensuring compliance with the Code of Virginia through home, work, and school verifications, SP-236 filings, photo updates and documentation for court and investigative use. Collaborating with Troopers, probation and parole officers, courts, law enforcement agencies, and community partners to advance the mission of the Firearms and Sex Offender Investigative Unit.

Requirements

• Knowledge of court proceedings.
• Knowledge of case management.
• Knowledge of the probation and parole process.
• Skill in operating a computer to include Microsoft software applications.
• Skill in data entry.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
• Ability to make decisions independently by applying policies, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and pay close attention to details.
• Ability to identify and respond to safety risks in unpredictable environments.
• Ability to manage evolving workloads and prioritize deadlines.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
• Ability to build professional rapport with offenders, Troopers, supervisors, and external partners.
• Possession of a valid Virginia Operator’s License.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Compliance Officers assigned to the Firearms and Sex Offender Investigative Unit (FSOIU) shall be assigned to a specific region.
• Compliance Officers shall reside within 45 minutes from any border of their assigned county or city.

Nice To Haves

• Experience or training in law enforcement operational procedures and verbal de-escalation techniques preferred.
