About The Position

BCI has an opening for a full-time Senior Systems Software (Safety) Engineer, in direct support of the Battle Management System Safety Program. This role is part of the System Safety Team, which provides specific, tailored, Warfare System and System Safety Engineering support to various Battle Management System applications. The team's responsibilities include identifying requirements and system functions, test analysis, and Verification and Validation (V&V) oversight of multiple safety performer and stakeholder efforts. The successful candidate must be an energetic self-starter, able to articulate complex technical issues clearly and concisely in both verbal and written formats, work productively independently and in team environments, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks in parallel.

Requirements

  • 10+ years professional experience in software engineering applied to program development, modeling and simulation.
  • At least four (4) years' qualified experience as a Systems Safety Engineer performing tasks focused on the development of system safety analysis, software safety analysis, software safety testing, risk assessment, software safety requirements and safety analysis by identifying, documenting, and tracking resolutions to software safety anomalies.
  • Demonstrated experience in peer review analysis of code written in programming languages.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, developing, and executing comprehensive Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), and System Requirement Hazard Analysis (SRHAs).
  • Demonstrated experience with Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB) and the Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP).
  • A formal degree in a software engineering, scientific, or technical discipline is required.
  • Two (2) years' experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is also a requirement.
  • Must be US citizens.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience gained in such programs as Aegis Combat and Weapon Systems, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD), Ship Self Defense System (SSDS), Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD), NIFC-CA, DDG-1000, Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) or US Coast Guard programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical, operational and engineering support for the systems and software engineering team that execute analyses and assessments of safety risks.
  • Participate in and lead engineering and safety reviews.
  • Conduct risk assessment studies and analyses with emphasis on software risk.
  • Prepare reports and briefs and present such materials to formal boards including WSESRB.
  • Perform analyses of System Safety Plans, Safety Management Plans, assessment of hardware and software changes/issues affecting systems safety and the analyses of safety test documentation/plans.
  • Review, identify and translate technical details into terms that clearly communicate safety risk in multiple forms, such as Technical Data Packages and Hazard Records.
  • Function as part of and provide leadership to a collaborative team of safety engineers.
  • Research, design, develop and test software used in DoD weapon systems.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art model-based tools to interpret and assess design requirements for weapons safety.
  • Develop and maintain currency and understanding of Navy and Joint ordnance, combat and weapon systems.
  • Understand relevant safety issues.
  • Apply the techniques of computer science engineering and math to assess user needs and establish rigorous requirements.
  • Analyze engineering artifacts associated with the design and development of a system.
  • Analyze safety test documentation/plans.
