The Position: AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Systems Engineer (ADT)-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $140,700.00 - $170,600.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required. To learn more about the surrounding area, please visit: www.visitstmarysmd.com Position Background: The Analysis, Debrief, and Test (ADT) Branch supports the development, integration, and testing of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB) product suite. The software products comprising the JTB support modeling and simulation (M&S) environments; trainer systems; test and evaluation (T&E); analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. All products are government owned, developed and managed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Aerospace, Computer, Software Systems, Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering OR Associate’s Degree with 4 years of additional work experience (9 years total) OR HS Diploma/Equivalent with 6 years of additional work experience (11 years total)
  • Degree obtained from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • 5 years of professional experience in software engineering using modern programming (Python and C++) with emphasis on building reliable maintainable systems
  • Experience with Python for application development, automation or tooling
  • Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL) for data querying, modeling and optimization
  • Experience with software engineering principles (modular design, code reuse, maintainability, etc.)
  • Experience writing clean, testable and well-documented code
  • Experience implementing automated testing and integrating test pipelines into CI/CD workflows
  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.)
  • Experience designing, integrating and supporting large-scale systems or systems-of-systems
  • Experience in modeling and simulation (M&S) environments or complex system integrations
  • The ability to decompose complex system requirements into implementable engineering tasks
  • Experience supporting full software development lifecycle (design, development, integration, testing, deployment, etc.)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional engineering teams
  • AMEWAS willing to obtain and process full clearance-The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Luigi, Dagster, etc.)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Linux environments and scripting for automation
  • Experience with logging, monitoring and observability tools (metrics, dashboards, alerting, etc.)
  • Experience with verification, validation (V&V) or mission-critical systems
  • Knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle processes (requirements, design, integration, testing, etc.)
  • Experience with requirements development, decomposition and traceability (DOORS and Jama)
  • Familiarity with SysML, DoDAF or systems architecture frameworks
  • Experience with Agile or DevSecOps environments and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with cloud environments and large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience using collaboration tools (Jira and Confluence)

Responsibilities

  • Supports a modeling and simulation (M&S) environment
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams (software engineers, data scientists, systems engineers, etc.) to design, integrate and maintain complex systems
  • Develops/Maintains software applications
  • Builds and orchestrates data pipelines and integrates components into larger system architectures
  • Participates in requirements decomposition
  • Translates customer needs into technical designs and implementable tasks
  • Ensures traceability and alignment across the system lifecycle
  • Collaborates closely with teams responsible for planning, testing and execution to ensure system components meet performance and quality standards
  • Supports verification and validation activities and debugs complex multi-system issues
  • Maintains system reliability through automation, CI/CD practices and observability tools
  • Contributes to design discussions, documents system architectures and helps guide development efforts across the full lifecycle (from concept and design through deployment and operational support)
  • Ensures scalable, maintainable and mission-ready solutions
