About The Position

The Software Scientist III develops, maintains, and extends software components and features for a variety of products. Writes well designed, testable, and efficient software. Provides and coordinates training for lower level software scientists. Conducts code reviews, documents design and implementation of Agile methodologies to ensure high-quality software. Works within the Institute for Social Science Research to provide strategic leadership for software engineering, research technology infrastructure, simulation systems, and advanced technical operations supporting interdisciplinary sponsored research. Oversees software development, systems integration, research computing, simulation technologies, AI-enabled research applications, technical personnel, and engineering student employees while collaborating with faculty investigators and external research partners to develop and sustain innovative research capabilities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and two (2) years of software development experience; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of software development experience; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of software development; OR high school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of software development.

  • Experience with simulation technologies, eye tracking, human-machine interaction, autonomous systems, or transportation research.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, Python, C#, C++, MATLAB, SQL, or similar development environments.
  • Experience developing research software for interdisciplinary scientific applications.
  • Experience supervising engineering or software development teams.
