About The Position

Join a new Ground Combat Vehicle program as a Software Safety Lead Engineer. You will serve as a primary interface between the Systems, Software, and Test teams for safety-related aspects of vehicle software, supporting software safety requirements, hazard analysis, architecture, design, and verification. This position is 100% onsite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing, creating, or testing C, C++, or embedded software and controls.
  • At least 7 years of experience designing software to achieve product critical safety goals using MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, or equivalent safety standards.
  • Experience with model-based software development techniques.
  • Working experience with requirements management tools such as Cameo or DOORS.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical hardware and the systems being controlled.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%, primarily domestic with some international travel.
  • Ability to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass an ASR test (Anthropometric Size Requirement) for confined spaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Postgraduate degree in a STEM field such as Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of embedded software test development and software systems integration engineering.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Defense industry experience.
  • Ability to bring continuous improvement processes and methodologies to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and decompose system and software requirements into Software Criticality Indices in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook.
  • Develop requirements and designs and assess implementations for hazards and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives.
  • Support system hazard analysis.
  • Recommend safety criteria for system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards.
  • Create software subsystem architecture designs for features, functions, and algorithms across multiple electronic controllers.
  • Review software architecture and design for the safety of electronic and software systems.
  • Review test plans and procedures for safety requirements verification and potentially hazardous operations.
  • Work closely with Systems, Software, and Test teams to address software safety considerations throughout the development lifecycle.
