About The Position

The Software Safety Engineer will support the Department of Defense (DoD) located in Redstone Arsenal, AL. This role involves providing staff supervision, guidance, and direction for assigned system development safety. The engineer will evaluate and coordinate missile weapon system safety concepts for command organizations engaged in research and development, testing, production engineering, procurement, and storage of guided missiles, ballistic missiles, rockets, and associated equipment to ensure safe design and procedures are incorporated in all phases of development. This may also involve equipment associated with missiles, such as Radars. The position requires providing professional software engineering advice, guidance, and assistance in various stages of research, development, and deployment. The engineer will direct the development of new software safety criteria and amend inadequate ones. They will perform independent safety analyses, studies, and design evaluations of systems, subsystems, and equipment. A key responsibility is ensuring that risk management processes are properly used during the entire life cycle of weapon systems and overseeing the execution of programmatic software safety activities for supported weapon systems. The role also ensures safety requirements are included in hazardous item contracts and provides software engineering support during fielding and sustainment of supported programs. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree.
  • Must have 15+ years of recent and related work experience.
  • Candidates with 19+ years of recent and related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
  • Must be a team player with strong work ethics and must be culture oriented.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills.
  • Must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Requires a Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
