About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Software Safety Engineer II to join us onsite in Tewksbury or Marlborough sites. Analyzing engineering software and/or firmware in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, and other relevant standards. Working with software development teams to review and analyze embedded software code. Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through deployment to gain concurrence with software builds. Assisting with Software and/or Firmware analyses. Participating in the execution of the Software System Safety Program. Interfacing with various stakeholders, including customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors. Assisting with the preparation of Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for customer approval. Assisting with software safety technical reviews. Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards. Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a comprehensive understanding of product architecture and design. Executing the safety strategy for the program to meet all its milestones with system safety/HSI features integrated into the product in compliance with contract and awarded funding. Supporting the program schedule and integrated system safety tasks and activities into program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS). Engaging the Lead System Safety Engineer and Portfolio Engineering Lead for guidance on technical execution, artifact review, attending customer reviews, etc. Supporting multi-IPT program meetings to ensure that system safety items are considered and to understand current program-wide issues. Ensuring program leadership understands system safety requirements, hazards, and planned mitigations.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with risk assessment concepts, such as those in MIL-STD 882E.
  • Experience writing technical reports and presentations.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400).
  • Experience preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
  • Experience reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering.
  • Experience managing Working Groups.
  • Active Secret U.S. government issued security clearance.
