About The Position

Apple’s Vision Products Group is seeking a Software Quality Engineer to champion software quality for live and on-demand media experiences on Apple Vision Pro and other spatial computing devices running visionOS. The role serves as the voice of the end user for live sports, events, and spatial media, shaping client software quality through test planning, coordinated testing, quality and design reviews, and bug triage through resolution. The engineer supports testing across the media lifecycle, from live capture and distribution through on-device playback, performance, and reliability. This includes assessing stream health and playback stability for 3D playback and Apple Immersive Video, and coordinating testing and issue resolution during live events under operational timelines. The role also designs and develops automated test suites for new hardware and software products on visionOS, extends coverage using existing frameworks and tooling, and supports integration into cross-functional teams’ CI pipelines and pre-submission test passes. The engineer collaborates with automation engineers and partner teams, improves existing test suite reliability, and uses Generative AI tools to assist with log analysis, failure classification, and reporting, alongside hands-on exploratory, reliability, and performance testing on visionOS hardware.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in end-user client software quality engineering, media QA, or video QA.
  • Experience writing test plans and coordinating test passes and reviews across engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with video streaming concepts such as HLS or DASH and video formats such as AVC and HEVC.
  • Understanding of test automation concepts and how automated tests support a quality strategy for OS frameworks such as AVKit and CoreMedia.
  • Ability to balance multiple efforts simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Practical use of Generative AI tools in test workflows, such as log analysis or report generation.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to turn complex issues into clear bug reports and readiness summaries.
  • Experience building or maintaining automated test scripts, tools, or pipelines that run on Apple devices.
  • Working knowledge of visionOS, iOS, or macOS, and experience debugging and profiling performance on client devices.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Broadcast Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Curiosity about spatial media playback.
  • Familiarity with Apple platform tools such as Xcode and Swift.
  • Familiarity with AVFoundation and other OS media frameworks.
  • Experience with AR/VR or spatial computing devices.
  • Experience with CI/CD test pipelines and working across OS media frameworks and platform teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the voice of the end user for live sports, events, and spatial media experiences on visionOS.
  • Plan and coordinate testing across complex development cycles with development engineers, production teams, and delivery partners.
  • Develop test plans, run quality reviews, support design reviews, and lead bug triage through resolution on Apple client devices.
  • Test across the media lifecycle, including live capture, distribution, on-device playback, performance, and reliability.
  • Assess stream health and playback stability for features such as 3D playback and Apple Immersive Video.
  • Execute testing during live events, coordinate with engineering partners, and drive issues to resolution within operational timelines.
  • Design and develop an automated test suite for a new visionOS hardware and software product for cross-functional validation workflows and CI pipelines.
  • Expand automated test coverage by authoring tests in existing frameworks and established tooling.
  • Collaborate with automation engineers to align test work with team standards, coding practices, and architectural patterns.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate the automated test suite into continuous integration systems and pre-submission test passes.
  • Improve the reliability and stability of existing automated test suites through debugging, refactoring, and targeted enhancements.
  • Partner with automation engineers and contribute to test automation as skills grow.
  • Use Generative AI tools to support log analysis, failure classification, and reporting.
  • Perform hands-on exploratory, reliability, and performance testing on visionOS hardware.
  • Lead and develop a team in a highly cross-functional environment.
