Software Quality Engineer

ZipLiens•Franklin, TN
•$77,000 - $104,000

About The Position

Zipliens is seeking a Quality Engineer to own quality for a feature or product area within its applications for the legal industry. The company’s software supports lien resolution for personal injury settlements, helping law firms work efficiently and injured people access settlement funds more quickly and accurately. QA is embedded in engineering teams and combines exploratory testing with automation. The role owns test strategy, automation, and release sign-off, using established patterns and test suites while helping improve them as engineering scales. The products include LLM-based features that extract structured information from medical records and lien correspondence. The engineer will evaluate non-deterministic output and use agentic coding tools and internal automation harnesses, reviewing their output and helping improve those tools. The role works closely with engineers and the Product Owner, and involves early participation in refinement to address testability and risk before development begins.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years on a QA or software development team, including experience owning test coverage for a feature or product area.
  • Strong skills in at least one of exploratory testing and test design, test automation and infrastructure, or AI/LLM evaluation, with working proficiency in a second.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test suites in a modern framework such as Playwright, Cypress, or pytest, including diagnosing flaky tests and fixing root causes.
  • Comfort reading and writing code; ability to understand the impact and risks of changes in Python/Django backend or React frontend code.
  • Experience integrating tests into CI pipelines and deciding which checks should gate a merge or deploy.
  • Strong SQL skills, including verifying data in PostgreSQL as part of workflow testing.
  • Hands-on experience testing LLM or ML features, including building golden datasets, measuring output quality, and understanding failure modes.
  • Experience using or experimenting with agentic coding tools and sound judgment about when their output needs closer review.
  • Clear written communication for defect reports, test plans, release sign-offs, and explaining risk to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience testing document processing or extraction from unstructured data.
  • Experience testing third-party integrations, including using contract tests, sandboxes, or recorded fixtures when documentation is limited.
  • Familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes, including reading logs and investigating where failures occurred.
  • Experience handling sensitive data such as PHI or working under HIPAA-style requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own quality for a feature or product area, including risk-based test strategy, regression scope, and release sign-off.
  • Build and maintain automated test suites and keep them integrated with CI; troubleshoot failing or flaky tests and address their underlying causes.
  • Perform exploratory testing of lien workflows and develop a detailed understanding of the applications, risk areas, and failure modes.
  • Test LLM-based features by building evaluation suites, setting acceptance thresholds with product, checking LLM-judge agreement against human labels, and adding adversarial and prompt-injection cases.
  • Use agentic coding tools to build and maintain automation, and review AI-generated tests before they are merged.
  • Participate in refinement with the Product Owner to shape acceptance criteria, identify testability gaps, and recommend coverage and risk priorities.
  • Shepherd defects from triage through resolution and write clear, reproducible reports for engineers.
  • Work directly with engineers as part of an embedded QA function.

Benefits

  • Private health care plan covering medical, dental, and vision.
  • Company HSA contributions for HDHP participants.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts for health and dependent care.
  • Company-paid short-term disability coverage.
  • Voluntary long-term disability, life, AD&D, and supplemental coverage options.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick time, and 10 paid holidays.
  • Parental leave.
  • Opportunity to earn a discretionary quarterly bonus.
