Aurelius SystemsSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

Aurelius Systems is a VC-backed defense tech startup focused on building autonomous, edge-deployed directed energy systems for counter-UAS, specifically laser weapons to neutralize drones. We are a growing team of engineers, former US military operators, and subject matter experts dedicated to advancing directed energy technology. Our operational philosophy, inspired by Marcus Aurelius and Henry Ford, emphasizes efficiency, output, and direct action. With facilities in San Francisco and a manufacturing hub in Detroit, we conduct weekly field tests on our private 400-acre range. We are seeking a Software QA Test Engineer to ensure the software quality of our Archimedes system. This role involves close collaboration with our Principal Robotics SWE to enhance CI/CD, regression infrastructure, and the code deployment pipeline. Test engineering is a critical function at Aurelius, focusing on building systems for robotics performance and validation rather than acting as a gatekeeper.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building test infrastructure for robotics, hardware, or safety-critical software.
  • Strong Python and C++ test development skills.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines from scratch and operating them in production.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or rig-based testing.
  • Comfortable working with real hardware, not just simulators.
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent (track record is more important than degree).

Nice To Haves

  • ROS2 testing experience.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop rig design experience.
  • Experience with performance and stress testing on real-time systems.
  • Experience with defense or safety-critical software release processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain test infrastructure for unit, integration, end-to-end, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines, build health, and release gates.
  • Create and maintain regression suites and automated test coverage across the robotics stack.
  • Perform bug triage and ensure reproducibility, owning issues until resolution.
  • Ensure cleanliness of fielded software releases.
  • Conduct lab testing on real hardware.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • United Health Care medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Flexible 18 days PTO + 5 sick days.
  • Travel to field test events and range days.
  • Covered daily lunches and office snacks/drinks.
  • E-bike / scooter stipend (Up to $500).
  • Direct access to leadership and ownership over your work.
