Software Principal Engineer / Web App Developer

About The Position

The Agentic Development Lifecycle (ADLC) Portal is the central platform our engineering organization uses to deliver software with AI agents as first-class team members. Engineers, architects and product managers use it to author and approve specifications, launch and monitor agent-driven implementation pipelines, enforce quality and governance gates, and trace every change from requirement to production with a full audit trail and delivery metrics. We are a small, AI-native team operating like a startup inside Dell: high autonomy, weekly shipping, and humans and AI agents sharing the delivery work every day. We don't just use AI tools; we build the platform that governs how AI builds software. Join us to do the best work of your career and make a profound impact as a Software Principal Engineer on our AI Governance Engineering team in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. This is an onsite role. As the senior hands-on engineer on the ADLC Portal, you will design and ship major subsystems end to end: front end, back-end services, and the data layer that stores specifications, artifacts, agent runs and their lineage. You will spend most of your time building (70%+), working alongside AI agents as part of your daily workflow, and setting the technical bar for the team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and operating full-stack production systems
  • Deep hands-on expertise in React with TypeScript (Next.js or a similar framework) and Node.js/TypeScript or Python back ends, including API design, authentication (OAuth/OIDC) and containerized deployment on Kubernetes
  • Strong data modeling and database skills, especially PostgreSQL: schema design for versioned and hierarchical metadata, indexing and query optimization, partitioning, caching, and knowing when to use document, graph or vector store
  • Shipped at least one production feature built on LLMs or AI agents (not only used AI coding assistants), and uses agentic development tools as a core part of daily engineering work
  • Thrives in a startup-style environment: comfortable with ambiguity, ships MVPs quickly, iterates on feedback and owns outcomes end to end

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience building developer platforms, SDLC/DevOps tooling or governance and audit systems, including GitHub/GitHub Enterprise API integrations, Redis, pgvector, event sourcing or knowledge graphs (e.g. Neo4j)
  • Experience with LLM evaluation and agent frameworks (e.g. LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK), MCP, Playwright end-to-end testing, Red Hat OpenShift, or contributions to open-source AI projects

Responsibilities

  • Build and own major portal capabilities across the full stack, including React/TypeScript user experiences on Next.js and Node.js/TypeScript (or Python) services and APIs, from design through production operations
  • Design the data layer for versioned specifications, agent-run records, lineage and audit trails, choosing the right mix of relational (PostgreSQL), document, graph and vector storage and keeping queries fast and cost-efficient as data grows
  • Integrate AI agents and LLMs into the product: tool calling, agent orchestration, streaming agent output, retrieval (RAG) and MCP integrations, with evaluations and guardrails that make agent output trustworthy
  • Work AI-native every day: write specs that agents implement, review and correct agent-generated code and tests, and continuously improve how the team delivers with agents
  • Raise the engineering bar through code and design reviews, test-driven development, observability, CI/CD on Kubernetes, and mentoring engineers on the team
