Software Engineering Unit Manager

Capgemini•Atlanta, GA
•$140,000 - $160,000

About The Position

Capgemini’s Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) work alongside client business and technology teams to identify and frame problems, define solutions, and remain accountable through solution build and value realization. An FDE independently owns a customer use case from discovery through production deployment and handoff, coordinating delivery-team contributions and partnering with client stakeholders, product teams, and engineering teams to define problems, design solutions, build production-quality software, and drive measurable adoption. The role combines strong technical execution with business and domain understanding. FDEs provide engineering judgment and business-value insight, shaping and industrializing solutions that deliver measurable client outcomes. They work with Capgemini’s broader business and technology teams to architect, design, and deliver solutions. The stated career path is to become a Principal ODE and ultimately an industry leader as a VP Distinguished Engineer or VP Business Partner. The position includes leading client discovery and problem framing; setting success measures and value hypotheses; owning solution architecture and hands-on critical-path work; delivering prototypes and production-ready increments; directing and validating AI-generated output; designing AI-powered workflows with human oversight; and ensuring production readiness. The FDE also turns prototypes into reusable assets, supports handoff and adoption, advises client leaders, and enables operating-model changes required by the solution. The posted base compensation range is $140,000–$160,000. Eligible regular, full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, with benefits varying according to local policy and eligibility. Benefits may include paid time off, holidays, personal days, sick leave, medical, dental and vision coverage, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, employee assistance programs, and other locally provided benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery and problem framing with client stakeholders, distinguishing the underlying problem from the stated request.
  • Define success measures, value hypotheses, and target outcomes before development begins.
  • Set solution direction, including decisions about capability changes, workflow redesign, platform choices, architecture, and the role of AI in the operating model.
  • Own solution architecture and hands-on work on the critical path, setting engineering, business, and delivery standards for the workstream.
  • Deliver rapid prototypes, proofs of value, and production-ready increments to demonstrate value early and reduce risk.
  • Guide AI tooling and teams in producing production-quality output, and verify that output before release.
  • Validate generated output against engineering and business concerns, including reliability, security, performance, compliance, regulatory requirements, operational feasibility, and business outcomes.
  • Design and implement applied AI and generative AI solutions as usable products, including AI-powered workflows with appropriate human oversight.
  • Own specifications and acceptance criteria for the pod and its tooling, and sign off that delivered work matches the specification.
  • Ensure production readiness, including reliability, security, compliance, observability, supportability, and operational sustainability.
  • Design solutions that balance technical quality, business value, user adoption, and regulatory obligations.
  • Apply expertise in one or more relevant areas, such as AI and agentic systems, software engineering, data and platform engineering, business architecture, operating-model transformation, workflow redesign, or digital product delivery.
  • Turn prototypes into repeatable, reusable assets, playbooks, patterns, and accelerators, and ensure clean handoff to delivery or managed services.
  • Share client learning across the wider FDE capability.
  • Ensure solutions are documented, supportable, measurable, and ready to scale beyond the initial deployment.
  • Own outcomes through adoption, lead client demonstrations and pilots, and drive usage among real users.
  • Coordinate subject-matter experts and secure the appropriate expertise at the right time; support transition into delivery and managed services.
  • Advise client managers and directors as a trusted partner across business and technology domains.
  • Design and enable required operating-model changes, including process redesign, capability mapping, workflow transformation, organizational impact, and technology adoption.

Benefits

  • Paid time off: 12–25 vacation days depending on employee grade, plus company-paid holidays, personal days, and sick leave, subject to policy.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, or provincial healthcare coordination in Canada.
  • Retirement savings plans, such as 401(k) in the U.S. or RRSP in Canada.
  • Life and disability insurance.
  • Employee assistance programs.
  • Other benefits provided according to local policy and eligibility.
  • The role may be eligible for variable incentives, bonuses, or commissions, depending on the position and applicable laws.
