About The Position

Moog is seeking a Software Engineering Supervisor to lead a team of 6–8 software engineers and interns developing automated test systems used to validate flight control actuation systems for military aircraft. The role provides technical and people leadership while remaining directly involved in software development, system integration, and verification. The team develops software for automated test equipment, hardware-in-the-loop systems, data acquisition, control systems, and simulation environments supporting aerospace programs. This is a hands-on leadership position, with approximately 60–70% of time devoted to technical work and 30–40% to team leadership and development. The position is based at Moog’s Torrance, California facility, with an optional hybrid schedule of three days onsite per week and a 9/80 schedule. It reports to the Site Test Systems Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated technical contributions to complex engineering projects.
  • Prior leadership experience through direct people management or technical leadership of engineering teams and projects.
  • Experience developing software using Python.
  • Experience with software design, integration, debugging, and verification activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence and support technical teams.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, up to 5–10%, as project needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing software for automated test equipment, test stands, or hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, dSPACE, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar test and simulation platforms.
  • Experience with data acquisition, instrumentation, automation, and control systems.
  • Aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industry experience.
  • Familiarity with flight control systems, electromechanical systems, or closed-loop control systems.
  • Experience supporting system verification and validation activities.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring and developing engineers in a technical environment.
  • Experience in a laboratory, test, or development environment involving integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Hands-on mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers and interns responsible for automated test system development and integration.
  • Provide technical leadership for software architectures, development, integration, and verification testing for aerospace test equipment.
  • Contribute directly to engineering projects through software development, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving.
  • Design, develop, and maintain software applications for data acquisition, control systems, automation, and test execution.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop, simulation, and automated test environments used to validate electromechanical and electrohydraulic flight control systems.
  • Collaborate with site leadership and engineering managers to prioritize work, allocate resources, and ensure successful project execution.
  • Perform software integration and verification using real and simulated hardware environments.
  • Drive engineering process compliance and identify opportunities to improve software quality, development efficiency, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Conduct performance reviews, support employee development plans, participate in workforce planning, and assist with recruiting and hiring.
  • Partner with systems, electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to deliver integrated test solutions that meet technical, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Support the definition and implementation of software requirements and ensure successful deployment and maintenance of software in operational environments.
  • Stay current with software technologies, test methodologies, and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement.
