About The Position

American Farm Bureau Insurance Services, Inc. (AFBIS, Inc.) is looking for a Software Engineering Supervisor to work out of our Fargo, ND office. As a leader on our software development team, you will be responsible for overseeing and delivering high-quality software solutions, as well as providing leadership, mentorship and guidance to the software engineering team. This is a hybrid role working out of the Fargo office at least two days a week and one additional day within a two-week period. If you are a hands-on technical leader with the ability to empower and develop people, can guide architectural decisions, and drive engineering excellence, this might be a great opportunity for you.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 6+ years of software development experience and experience managing projects, along with 3+ years of People Management experience
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, performance optimization, secure coding practices, and production operations
  • Experience with system monitoring, troubleshooting, incident management, and maintaining highly available production environments
  • In-depth understanding of IT department operations, technologies and systems
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum or Waterfall
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. for ANY employer without the need for employment visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Scrum Master Certified, PMP, or similar industry certifications are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, leadership, and support fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth and development.
  • Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications, ensuring adherence to coding standards, code quality, best practices, and project timelines.
  • Conduct regular meetings to keep software engineering department updated on the overall status of all current projects.
  • Attend regular meetings to assist with prioritizing projects, identifying bottlenecks, and assigning projects created by the Projects department.
  • Lead and contribute to architectural decisions, technical design reviews, process improvements, automation and innovation, and cross-team collaboration initiatives.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in software development, and champion the adoption of new tools, frameworks, and practices.
  • Participates in programming activities, developing code when needed.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and expertise to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Analyze software projects at the beginning of each release cycle and assign projects to other developers based on their areas of expertise and experience.
