About The Position

Muon Space is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the software engineering group within its Information Systems team. This hands-on player-coach will hire and develop a high-performing full-stack team that builds mission-critical internal software, platforms, integrations, and automated tools, with a focus on eliminating manual and repetitive work across the company. The manager will set technical standards and partner with Product Management and business stakeholders to turn the Information Systems roadmap into reliable, well-adopted software. The Information Systems team supports teams across the business, including factory operations and launch teams, through custom and vendor software, data platforms, and automated tools. The manager will own workforce planning, team development, technical quality, and end-to-end delivery of internal software, while contributing to architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and implementation. The role also guides buy-versus-build decisions and engineering integrations with core business systems. The position is hybrid and requires working on-site in Muon’s San Jose, California office three days per week. The role requires access to export-controlled information and has associated U.S. government export eligibility requirements.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience on high-performing software teams, including significant full-stack frontend and backend development.
  • At least 3 years of direct management experience managing software engineers, with demonstrated ability to build and lead a high-performing team while remaining hands-on.
  • Experience owning complex software systems from design through production, ideally internal tools, enterprise software, or business systems.
  • Proficiency in Python and JavaScript or TypeScript, modern frontend frameworks such as React, relational databases such as PostgreSQL, and REST or GraphQL API design.
  • Experience building and executing technical roadmaps with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. government eligibility requirements for access to export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating with or extending enterprise platforms such as ERP (for example, SAP S/4HANA), PLM, MES, HRIS, or ATS.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud, containerized deployments, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience delivering software in export-controlled or compliance-driven environments.
  • Experience applying AI/ML to automate business workflows.
  • Modern space systems or hardware-manufacturing experience.
  • Proven success in a high-growth startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of full-stack software engineers; manage the employee lifecycle from hiring and onboarding through development and performance management.
  • Recruit and plan for an organization that can scale with business needs, including workforce planning and resourcing across concurrent efforts.
  • Set high standards for code quality, design review, testing, security, and operational reliability.
  • Partner with the Information Systems Product Manager and stakeholders across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, and Mission Operations to translate the roadmap into team goals, plans, and delivery commitments; communicate those goals internally and externally.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of internal software, from product concept through deployment, adoption, and ongoing support for internal customers.
  • Contribute hands-on to architecture, technology selection, and code review, and implement software when needed.
  • Guide buy-versus-build decisions and lead engineering integrations of core systems, such as ERP, PLM, MES, and Supply Chain, to automate data flows and handoffs.
  • Identify and implement processes, tooling, and infrastructure—including CI/CD, observability, and AI-assisted development—to improve design and delivery speed.
  • Create an inclusive, collaborative, team-oriented culture that supports productivity and growth.
