Software Engineering Manager

Microsoft•Redmond, WA
•$142,800 - $304,200

About The Position

Microsoft’s Purview Integration platform team aims to make Purview protections native across Microsoft apps and AI surfaces, replacing fragmented integrations and inconsistent enforcement with shared infrastructure and measurable coverage. The team will provide a common SDK and integration contract for data loss prevention (DLP) enforcement, classification signals, RMS encryption and usage rights, telemetry, and onboarding tools. Planned integration surfaces include Office apps, Outlook, Copilot surfaces, Autopilot, and future agent harnesses. Milestones include an SDK, adoption by two surfaces, and subsequent work on policy parity, protected AI output, self-service onboarding, coverage telemetry, and performance. The proposed team includes an engineering manager and specialists in the SDK, AI harnesses, Office and Outlook, telemetry and reliability, and onboarding. The team will embed during each surface’s initial integration and own the contract, SDK, and conformance bar. Purview core teams retain ownership of policy semantics, while surface teams own user experience and rollout after conformance. The manager will drive platform strategy and roadmap, lead engineering practices including responsible AI-assisted development, guide architecture and coding quality, measure coverage, reliability, and performance, and manage, coach, and support the growth and wellbeing of individual contributors.

Requirements

  • Lead the disciplined use and improvement of AI tools and practices across the software development lifecycle; guide the team in taking responsibility for AI-generated requirements, design documents, code, and other assets.
  • Guide others in owning and leading architecture efforts and discussions for aspects of complex products and solutions, including design and cost; identify opportunities to incorporate open-source, off-the-shelf components, and managed services.
  • Review debugging tools, tests, logs, telemetry, and other methods; act as an expert in proactively verifying assumptions during development to prevent production issues.
  • Use telemetry to track protection coverage, reliability, and performance, and report on them to leadership.
  • Set clear ownership and priorities for individual contributors, coach them through regular feedback, support team wellbeing, and develop each person’s skills and career.
