About The Position

FAST Labs is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join its leadership team. This role involves shaping culture and process, ensuring staffing and technical needs are met, and overseeing the design, implementation, and sustainment of software solutions. The manager will mentor, guide, and provide feedback to a team of 7 to 15 software engineers, collaborating with product and program management on technical direction. The position is part of the Cutting-Edge Research and Development Team in FAST Labs, focusing on advanced electronic solutions for the U.S. military in areas such as Autonomy, Sensors & Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Electronic Warfare, and Cyber Operations & Defense. The team fosters a "what's next" mentality to create cutting-edge solutions that enhance situational awareness, accelerate decision-making, and improve operational efficiencies for warfighters.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain SCI and SAP accesses.
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience in leading software teams in either a functional and/or technical role.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide individuals through complicated or difficult situations effectively and professionally and supporting their career development.
  • Expert-level experience with Object Oriented design, development practices, and implementation in C++11 (or later).
  • Expert-level experience developing for and operating in a Linux Environment.
  • Knowledge of software architectures, industry best practices, and emerging software technologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Proven project management skills with ability to deliver high-quality software products on time.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
  • MATLAB Experience is a plus.
  • Development experience with Python.
  • General Purpose Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) OPENCL or CUDA development experience is highly desired.
  • Experience in a rapid prototype environment.
  • Real-time, embedded, multi-threaded, low latency development and/or Linux application development.
  • Experience with DevSecOps, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), or automated release management.
  • Experience with containerization (e.g. Podman/Docker) and developing software in containerized environments.
  • Experience developing applications that cover several of: distributed, multi-threaded, real time, embedded, low latency, DSP, device control, or military systems.
  • Knowledge of Digital Engineering methodologies and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a group of 7 to 15 software engineers, providing technical mentoring, career guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Work closely with product and program management to help set the technical direction for our products.
  • Design and evaluate complex software architectures, ensuring they meet customer requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior engineers, customers, and stakeholders to develop and implement software solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and integrate software applications in languages such as C++, Python, and MATLAB.
  • Utilize technologies such as Cloud Native Technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Harbor, Helm) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Participate in agile development processes, contributing to team success and timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Develop software solutions that interface with hardware devices such as FPGAs, GPUs, and embedded SoCs, utilizing protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI, and CAN.
  • Apply DevSecOps principles, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and automated release management to ensure software security and integrity.
  • Develop software solutions utilizing containerization (e.g., Podman/Docker) and cloud technologies.
  • Develop software applications for RF, Radar, EO/IR, Electronic Warfare, or Software Defined Radio systems, including signal processing, data analysis, and system control.
