As a Software Engineering Manager, you will blend strong hands-on engineering expertise with inspiring team leadership to deliver high‑fidelity, mission‑critical training systems used by pilots and defense personnel worldwide. You’ll work out of our Binghamton location —an area known for its affordability, rich history, and proximity to the scenic Finger Lakes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with hands‑on development in mission‑critical or real‑time systems.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years leading teams, mentoring engineers, or serving as a technical lead.
  • Strong mastery of real‑time/embedded or simulation development experience.
  • High initiative, strong ownership, positive attitude, and consistent follow‑through.
  • Ability to motivate, coach, and elevate a team while contributing technically ~80% of your time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance and Special Program Access.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Flexibility for occasional overtime, weekend/shift work, and CONUS travel.
  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in integrating modern technology into legacy architectures.
  • Experience with tools such as Atlassian suite, GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins, and change‑control systems.
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience (Cost/Schedule/Technical)
  • Defense or military experience and comfort operating in both Traditional and Agile environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor software engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining software for flight and mission simulators, ensuring high reliability and exceptional performance.
  • Modernize and enhance legacy codebases essential to simulator functionality, driving upgrades that improve stability and expand capability.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, systems engineering, and program management stakeholders to align software development with program needs.
  • Lead projects using both Waterfall and Agile/Scrum methodologies and contribute to BOEs, IMPs, and IMS planning.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues in real-time or legacy systems to support high‑stakes pilot training outcomes.
  • Create and maintain a productive, supportive, and growth‑focused team environment.
  • Coach, motivate, and develop engineers to achieve excellence in performance and career progression.
  • Define roles and responsibilities and guide the adoption of best‑practice engineering processes and tools.
  • Support proposals, staffing plans, hiring, evaluations, and company communications.
