  • 10+ years of relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Experience in fuel retail, convenience retail, or other high-volume forecourt/store technology environments.
  • Direct experience with fuel dispenser platforms (Gilbarco, Wayne/Dover, Invenco) or dispenser communication protocols (CRIND, SPOT, Conexxus).
  • Experience with TPM2, LUKS disk encryption, Secure Boot, or firmware update security (fwupd) on embedded Linux fleets.
  • Experience with PCI/P2PE compliance for payment-adjacent systems.
  • Experience building self-service internal tooling or portals (e.g., approval workflows, file distribution, device management).
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and agentic engineering practices in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with SAFe Agile or comparable enterprise agile delivery methods.
  • Embedded and forecourt systems engineering leadership
  • Fuel dispenser and payment hardware integration
  • Cloud-native architecture on AWS (serverless, event-driven)
  • Field fleet reliability, security, and incident response
  • Vendor and partner technical relationship management
  • AI-assisted engineering and agentic development practices

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers responsible for designing, developing, deploying, supporting, and continuously improving DEX forecourt applications and services, including dispenser software, payment integration, and media/display systems.
  • Guide well-architected forecourt and cloud-connected retail platform designs that balance performance, reliability, scalability, security, maintainability, and cost.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across embedded Linux (Ubuntu), Java, Python, Node.js, REST APIs, AWS serverless architecture (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SNS/SQS, Cognito), and CI/CD practices.
  • Oversee integration with fuel dispenser hardware and OEM platforms (Gilbarco/GVR Flex Pay, Invenco, Dover Anthem) including CRIND firmware, SPOT protocol, and Conexus XML standards.
  • Drive dispenser payment and media integration work, including display/screen protocols, Neocloud media APIs, and secure device communication.
  • Own security posture for embedded forecourt devices, including Secure Boot, TPM2-sealed LUKS encryption, firmware update (fund) processes, and PCI/P2PE compliance across the payment attack surface.
  • Integrate forecourt applications with cloud-hosted AWS services using secure, event-driven patterns, monitoring, and access controls.
  • Champion reliable dispenser-to-cloud transaction flows by improving device communication, offline/online resiliency, observability, and incident response for field-deployed hardware.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
  • Lead vendor-facing technical engagement with forecourt hardware and payment partners (Gilbarco/GVR, Invenco) on integration issues, support escalations, and roadmap alignment.
  • Build an automation-first engineering culture across device provisioning, deployment, configuration management, testing, monitoring, and self-service tooling (e.g., install/documentation distribution portals).
  • Mentor engineers in secure software development, embedded systems, cloud architecture, DevOps, testing, debugging, and production support for field hardware.
  • Partner with product, InfoSec, IT strategy, field operations, hardware vendors, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, manage backlogs, communicate progress, and deliver customer-focused outcomes.
  • Manage project delivery, vendor relationships, and support commitments across a distributed fleet of forecourt devices, with clear prioritization and transparent reporting.
  • Evaluate emerging forecourt technologies, dispenser platforms, and cloud capabilities that improve reliability, security, and total cost of ownership across the fleet.
