About The Position

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill a Manager of Software Engineering 2 position based in Annapolis, MD. The role consists of leading a team of embedded software engineers that support development and production of SONAR systems software, as well as new business pursuits to ensure quality software solutions. This position is a dual role encompassing both people and project/technical participation. The Software Manager will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The selected candidate will work closely with Managers of other engineering disciplines, and Program Managers. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment ranging from research and development to legacy products and production support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field with 8 years of experience in a software engineering discipline; OR a Masters degree in a STEM related field with 6 years of experience in a software engineering discipline; OR a PhD in a STEM related field with 4 years of experience in a software engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role on a software project
  • Experience with developing embedded software
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and monitoring
  • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain a Top Secret and Special Access clearances may be required for this position

Responsibilities

  • Lead a Software functional group of 10 to 12 engineers including performance management, career development, staffing, and compensation planning
  • Provide project and technical oversight for design activities performed by the group
  • Develop proposal inputs and review proposal content for both internal and external customers
  • Support department initiatives, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, and internally funded projects
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, and hiring
  • Support fostering employee engagement and knowledge sharing
