About The Position

The MISO 2027 Summer Internship Program is seeking graduate-level students pursuing degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Technology, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related fields. This internship offers the opportunity to gain career-igniting experience by contributing to innovations that enhance system reliability, resilience, and performance in the energy industry. Interns will work on real features in production applications and services, explore AI-enabled engineering, contribute to platform/operations work, and participate in professional development activities. The program aims to provide a blend of technical challenge, professional growth, and engaging experiences, culminating in a final project presentation.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a graduate level degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Technology, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Hands-on skills in Python, Java, Angular/TypeScript.
  • Comfortable with Git/GitHub, CI/CD, containers, and modern IDEs (VS Code, IntelliJ, Cursor).
  • Excited by generative AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agent frameworks, and applying AI to practical engineering problems.
  • Understand (or want to learn) cloud infrastructure concepts, networking basics, observability/monitoring, automation principles, and security fundamentals.
  • Show curiosity, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Available to start Wednesday, June 2nd, 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13th, 2027.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without VISA sponsorship (including OPT/CPT).

Responsibilities

  • Build real features in production applications and services, pairing with engineers, shipping code, and learning modern development practices (Angular/TypeScript, Java, CI/CD, containers).
  • Explore AI‑enabled engineering, including Python + GitHub workflows, generative AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, and agent frameworks to automate tasks, improve developer workflows, and power new user experiences.
  • Contribute to platform/operations work such as data pipelines, observability dashboards, and automated remediation workflows.
  • Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming.
  • Present final project work, recommendations, and areas of impact at the end of the summer.
