About The Position

The Azure Storage team is chartered with building, managing, and running the persistent cloud storage for Microsoft Azure cloud. This team is one of the foundational services of Azure Cloud and hosts data from the largest companies in the world alongside all of Microsoft’s largest online businesses. The role involves joining a talented, highly collaborative team responsible for engineering the lowest, most fundamental layers of the Azure storage service. You will be working on next generation storage platforms built on storage servers with Data Processing Units (DPUs). The team is responsible for the meta-data data service, as well as storing the data across storage servers, while ensuring high availability, reliability, durability, and cost efficiency. This is a Senior Software Engineer position for individuals interested in building and optimizing a world-class distributed file system. Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Java OR equivalent experience
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Nice To Haves

Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Java OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Java OR equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in software engineering practices, coding and solid foundation in data structures and algorithms, with problem solving, debugging and analytical skills
3+ years of experience in Storage, File-Systems, Distributed Systems, Operating Systems, or Networking (TCP & RDMA) at scale
Experience in Operating systems internals, production diagnostics, and large-scale service operations, with the ability to lead complex investigations, drive root-cause resolution, and improve system reliability through engineering

Responsibilities

Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features
Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight
Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable
Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation
Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems
Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale
