Software Engineering Generalist

LeadStack Inc.San Francisco, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

LeadStack Inc. is seeking a Software Engineering Generalist for a 6-month contract (potential to extend) in San Francisco, CA. This hybrid role requires 2 days in the office and offers a pay range of $200/hr - $255/hr on W2. The position focuses on building internal products, sitting at the intersection of engineering, product, and design. The ideal candidate will own outcomes, work directly with users to understand their needs, identify patterns, and build abstractions to unlock capabilities for others. This role is for product engineers who can rapidly design, prototype, and ship full-stack features, consult with users, spot patterns to build reusable components, and create tools that maximize autonomy for less-technical users. The role involves making product and prioritization decisions, iterating based on feedback, and adapting to new tools and domains.

  • 6+ years of experience building production software, ideally full stack
  • Independently capable of taking a product from idea to shipped
  • Think in systems and abstractions
  • Care about empowering users
  • Own outcomes, not just code
  • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and operating with ambiguity
  • Hold yourself to a high bar without needing external pressure
  • Proficiency across the stack (Python, TypeScript, React)
  • Experience building platforms, primitives, or internal tools that others build on top of
  • A track record of shipping products independently

Nice To Haves

  • Product experience
  • Technical and product knowledge
  • Ex-founders, startups, high growth experience
  • Customer exposure
  • Technical and functional knowledge
  • Product discovery and implementation
  • AI collaboration usage
  • Product Domain Background
  • Experience in Big Tech is likely NOT a fit
  • Strong communication skills
  • Collaborative work in group settings
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly design, prototype, and ship full-stack features across backend, frontend, and infrastructure
  • Consult with users and stakeholders to understand workflows and identify the highest-impact opportunities
  • Spot patterns across user requests and reduce them into primitives, platforms, or middleware that support a variety of use cases
  • Build tools that maximize autonomy and creative freedom for less-technical users
  • Make product and prioritization decisions
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback to continuously improve the user experience
  • Pick up new tools, frameworks, and domains as the product evolves
