About The Position

The Software Engineering Architect will guide the technical architecture of existing software solutions and act as an architectural authority for the development of new solutions. This role involves advising on and making decisions regarding the overall technical direction of a product or suite of products, developing the strategy for application development, and defining the technical infrastructure to support that strategy. The architect will research, recommend, and provide estimates for integration with third-party components or complex systems. During critical production issues, they will participate in efforts to quickly assess, make recommendations, and implement solutions. This position provides technical expertise and guidance to other technical staff and other groups within the organization, leads efforts to define best-in-class development processes and engineering practices, and provides guidance on new technology and framework decisions, including buy versus build. Through design and code reviews, the architect ensures new development is compliant with the defined solution architecture and incorporates the organization’s architecture strategy. They contribute to and drive technological and architectural decisions, and assist peer organizations with activities such as performance, scalability, and reliability testing. Additionally, the architect researches new or emerging technologies to ensure application standards and processes are continuously improved and aligned with industry standards.

Requirements

10+ years of hands on experience with architecting and building mission critical, high performance web based applications, with minimum 3 years in an Architect role
Strong OO design and coding skills
Well versed in multi-tier web application architecture
Exceptional troubleshooting and debugging skills
Experienced with best practices and patterns for building large scale distributed applications
Experienced with middleware technologies for messaging, caching, services etc
Good understanding of industry trends and technologies in high scalability, PaaS and distributed application development
Solid understanding of relational database concepts and experience using Oracle or SQLServer
Experience with JBoss or Tomcat
Experience working in Agile environment
Proficient in application development using Java/J2EE technology (Servlets, JSP, JMS), standard frameworks (Hibernate, Spring), SOA, web services
Experience with security protocols and technologies for integration (SSL, web services security)

Nice To Haves

Experience in developing mobile applications (native and web) is a big plus
