About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle from coding to deployment and maintenance. You will apply cloud-native architecture principles and integrate AI/ML technologies to build innovative solutions that enhance engineering productivity and system resilience. This role requires strong technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and architectural standards. You will influence technical decisions, promote engineering excellence, and continuously improve processes to support Walmart’s strategic goals. About the team: The Transportation team advances Walmart’s Supply Chain by developing scalable, resilient applications that enhance delivery efficiency to warehouses, stores, and customers. Leveraging real-time telematics, computer vision, and IoT across Walmart’s and third-party fleets, the team drives effective fleet management and cost savings. Utilizing a robust technology stack including React Native, Java microservices with Spring Boot, Postgres Timescale DB, Kafka, Cosmos, ElasticSearch, Azure, Splunk, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, the team ensures high performance and reliability in platform delivery while continuously innovating to meet evolving business needs.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Extensive experience in software development with proficiency in Java / Springboot, REST based microservices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision making to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions to promote engineering excellence.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

  • Lead system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define user problems, translate requirements, and track success metrics.
