Software Engineer, AI/ML, Search Personalization
About The Position
Google software engineers develop technologies that help billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. Engineers work on projects important to Google, with opportunities to change teams and projects as business needs evolve. The role calls for versatility, leadership, and willingness to tackle problems across the full stack. On Google Search, the team is reimagining how people search for information and works to address complex engineering challenges while expanding infrastructure and maintaining an accessible, useful experience for people around the world. This position focuses on Search Personalization and applies machine learning to product and system development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages, or 1 year with an advanced degree.
- At least 2 years of software development experience in C++.
- At least 1 year of experience building and deploying recommendation system models in production, such as retrieval, prediction, ranking, personalization, search quality, or embedding.
- At least 1 year of experience integrating generative AI tools or LLM interfaces into workflows.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- At least 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- Experience developing accessible technologies.
- Experience developing algorithms and software that generate suggestions based on various input and output goals, such as ranking, recommendations, prediction, search quality, or personalization.
Responsibilities
- Write product or system development code.
- Collaborate with peers and stakeholders through design and code reviews to promote best practices, including coding standards, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
- Contribute to documentation or educational content and adapt it based on product or program updates and user feedback.
- Implement solutions in one or more specialized machine-learning areas, use ML infrastructure, and contribute to model optimization and data processing.
- Use AI tools and technologies and be prepared to discuss knowledge and use of AI tools during the hiring process.
