About The Position
The Summer 2027 Software Engineer enGen Graduate Internship provides graduate students with hands-on experience developing and modernizing enterprise healthcare technology solutions. Embedded within the DCSS application development team, the intern contributes to application development, API integrations, cloud-enabled solutions, and modernization initiatives supporting business and healthcare operations. The intern collaborates with software engineers, architects, business analysts, and product owners throughout the software development lifecycle. In an Agile environment, the intern participates in solution design, coding, testing, troubleshooting, implementation, and technical documentation, gaining exposure to modern software engineering, cloud technologies, DevOps practices, and enterprise application architecture. The internship is intended for graduate students nearing completion of their degree who want to apply advanced academic knowledge to practical software solutions. Through mentorship and project work, participants develop technical, analytical, and collaborative skills and build a foundation for a career in software engineering, enterprise application development, digital transformation, or healthcare technology. The program provides practical experience through direct exposure to related business lines, hands-on training, exposure to career opportunities, and preparation for positions in the business. Work is performed under supervision, with guidance, training, and mentoring from senior personnel. Applicants must be independently authorized to work in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not offered for this role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Pursuing a graduate degree, full-time or part-time, at an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities
- Develop and test application components.
- Support APIs and system integrations.
- Analyze application issues and contribute to troubleshooting.
- Contribute to application modernization efforts and cloud-enabled solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and throughout the software development lifecycle, including solution design, coding, testing, and implementation.
- Collaborate with software engineers, architects, business analysts, product owners, and business teams.
- Create technical documentation.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clientele, and other internal or external constituencies to plan assignments and resolve day-to-day operational problems.
- Under supervision, provide professional services aligned with the area’s day-to-day operating objectives, receiving guidance and mentoring from senior personnel.
- Participate in projects, programs, unit planning, and initiatives to develop professional skills and expertise.
- Conduct research and reporting, including recommendations or alternative proposals when requested by management.
- Undertake related studies or enrichment programs and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Protect covered information, cardholder data, and confidential customer information, and comply with HIPAA, information security requirements, company policies, and the Code of Business Conduct.
