About The Position

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Java Software Engineer for its East Syracuse, NY office. The role involves working with the System Engineering Team and other Software Engineers to improve tools used within the FAA. The ideal candidate will have an interest in all aspects of the software development lifecycle. Saab, Inc. is a defense and security company focused on making the world a safer place through advanced technology and systems, supporting various government agencies and commercial partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in computer science, software engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years of related experience required
  • Strong Java programming skills
  • Relational database experience, preferably PostgreSQL
  • Strong LINUX environment skills including command line and scripting tools
  • Object Oriented Analysis and Design skills
  • Experience with Integrated Development Environments (e.g. Eclipse, IntelliJ)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Ability to travel (<10% domestic and international)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with unit test frameworks (e.g. Junit, GTest, JTest)
  • Experience with software design patterns
  • Experience using UML
  • Experience with automated build systems (e.g. Maven, Bamboo, Gradle)
  • Aviation and Defense systems background/domain interest
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Development (Generative AI, LLMs, AI coding assistants, RAG, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI MCP servers)
  • Experience with Ansible Automation and authoring playbooks and roles for installing, maintaining, or upgrading platforms
