Turing is seeking experienced, hands-on software engineers to evaluate and improve AI coding models. Rather than primarily building production applications, this role involves working with coding agents across real-world repositories and assessing the quality of their work. You will review generated code and agent behavior, determine whether solutions are technically correct, identify failure modes, and create evaluation signals and feedback to improve model performance. The role requires assessing whether an agent understood a task, chose an appropriate approach, and produced correct, robust, maintainable code, then explaining precisely where it succeeded or failed. You will also help develop evaluation criteria and produce evaluation and preference data used to improve coding models. The role includes building and maintaining pipelines and infrastructure for data generation, collection, and evaluation workflows, and collaborating with researchers and engineers to turn qualitative judgment into scalable processes. This is an independent contractor engagement lasting approximately three months, with a preferred availability of 40 hours per week and at least six hours of Pacific Time overlap. The position is open to candidates in North America, LATAM, or India, and is expected to start as soon as possible. Compensation is at market rate; candidates should provide a specific hourly rate expectation.
