About The Position

The Software Engineer - Counter Measures Systems will support the space program located in Houston, TX. The Counter Measures Systems Software Engineer will help NASA with the health of astronauts in the reduced gravity environments of the ISS and Gateway spacecraft. Potential development projects include sensorimotor training tools for microgravity applications, software application development, firmware development, and modeling/simulation of humans in conjunction with health countermeasure systems. Generate and maintain software for these human spaceflight scenarios. Review software products and artifacts for completeness of design and implementation. Perform system integration and testing as well as coordinate testing and verification duties. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering or information technology.
  • Must have a minimum of 1+ years of recent and related work experience.
  • Must have experience developing software applications and an interest in human technology development.
  • Must have knowledge of Software Architecture and proficiency with Linux.
  • Must have GUI development experience for user interface and backend applications.
  • Proficiency with C/C++ coding, and familiar with Dart/Flutter, Javascript.
  • Has experience communicating with hardware for reading sensors and commanding actuators.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python (as well as packages pandas and numpy).
  • Must understand database orchestration and querying (InfluxDB3, Postgres DB using SQL).
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving software integration issues.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Able to quickly adapt to new situations and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Must be willing to work onsite at Johnson Space Center.
  • This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support a team responsible for the software components of existing exercise equipment and new equipment such as a heart rate monitor used on future spacecraft missions.
  • Demonstrate strong skills in developing software applications, adapting software/firmware for use with robotic devices, and Graphical User Interface development.
  • Experience with developing systems, formulas, or methods that help track or maintain human health, especially during spaceflight will be valuable to potential candidates.
  • Generate and maintain software for human spaceflight scenarios.
  • Review software products and artifacts for completeness of design and implementation.
  • Perform system integration and testing.
  • Coordinate testing and verification duties.
