About The Position

Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for users and society. Claude Design is a new product from Anthropic Labs, designed to allow users to collaborate with Claude to create visual work such as interactive prototypes, product mockups, slides, one-pagers, and marketing collateral. Engineers joining now will play a key role in defining the future of this product. This is a frontend-leaning role focused on building intuitive and high-craft design experiences using AI-generated design.

Requirements

8+ years of experience building full-stack applications with deep frontend strength.
Track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments.
Experience setting technical direction for a team or workstream and mentoring other engineers, while remaining hands-on.
Strong design sensibility and a high bar for craft, with attention to interaction details, motion, and polish.
Strong technical skills across modern web stacks (React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Go, etc.), including complex client-side state, performance, APIs, databases, and cloud technologies.
Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and a need for rapid shipping.
Deeply user-centric approach, with a focus on validating ideas with users.
Ability to hold strong opinions loosely and change one's mind based on evidence.
Generalist ability to move between frontend, backend, and product problems.
Ability to work independently with good judgment.
Effective communication skills to translate complex AI capabilities into intuitive experiences.
Care about the societal impacts and ethics of AI work.

Nice To Haves

Extensive experience working with or building visual collaboration & creative tools (e.g., Figma, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud).
Hands-on experience with UI/UX for AI-powered applications and fluency collaborating with designers.
Background conducting user research, interviews, and usability testing.
Deep frontend expertise in canvas rendering, complex editor UIs, design-system tooling, or graphics work (WebGL/shaders, 3D, animation).
Experience with real-time, collaborative applications (multiplayer editing, WebSockets) or complex, high-performance frontend interactions.

Responsibilities

Build and ship Claude Design's core surfaces, including the design canvas, real-time editing, inline comments, and live adjustment controls.
Collaborate with research teams to translate cutting-edge vision and generation capabilities into intuitive design experiences.
Work directly with designers, internal test users, and external partners to gather feedback and iterate on product concepts.
Set technical direction for complex frontend challenges such as editor and canvas architecture, real-time collaboration, design-system inference, and performance scaling.
Design and run experiments to test product hypotheses and evaluate generation quality.
Own the product's quality, focusing on latency, responsiveness, and reliability.
Strengthen the handoff to Claude Code to ensure designs translate cleanly into production.
Operate as a technical leader, shaping the roadmap, making architectural decisions, and mentoring engineers.
