About The Position

This role is for a Software Engineer, AI-Accelerated Development, within a cloud communications API platform (CPaaS) company. The company powers voice and text messaging for over 1,500 businesses. The platform includes various APIs and solutions for voice, SMS/MMS, RCS, branded calling, and BYOC options, all built with a focus on reliability, compliance, and U.S.-based support. The engineering team is small and senior, with a focus on leveraging AI tools in the development process. The opportunity is for an engineer who is already comfortable using AI tools and wants to deepen that expertise within a team that uses them daily. The engineer will work across the Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services stack, utilizing AI coding assistants for tasks like scaffolding, code review, test generation, debugging, and documentation. The role is ideal for someone early in their AI-assisted development journey who wants to grow quickly in this area, supported by experienced teammates.

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally including backend/API work or distributed systems
• Regular, hands-on use of AI coding tools, with a genuine interest in getting sharper with them
• Solid fundamentals in data structures, testing, and system design
• Experience with a modern backend language/framework (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java); this team is primarily Node with some Python
• Strong written communication skills
• Able to be in the Raleigh, NC office Wednesdays and Thursdays each week
• This role is not able to sponsor work visas

Nice To Haves

• Any exposure to telecom protocols (SIP, SMPP)
• Any exposure to messaging standards (SMS/MMS/RCS)

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship features across Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services systems (APIs, routing logic, carrier integrations, messaging pipelines)
• Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of your daily workflow
• Experiment with AI agents for engineering tasks (testing, documentation upkeep, code migration) under guidance from senior teammates
• Support production systems handling real-time voice and messaging traffic, including a weekly on-call rotation
• Work closely with product management on scoping and estimation
• Write clear documentation, including notes on what worked and didn't with AI-assisted workflows
