About The Position

Masabi is seeking a backend-focused Software Engineer to build and evolve services at the heart of its Justride fare payment platform. The role works on cloud-native, event-driven systems used by transit agencies around the world, covering fare and ticketing logic as well as the APIs and integrations connecting riders, operators, and partners. Working with engineers, testers, and product partners, the developer will help take features from concept through production and contribute to the rider experience.

This is a fully remote contract role for people based in Poland. The position involves building and maintaining backend services and APIs, contributing to scalable and reliable distributed systems, and supporting integrations with internal and third-party systems. The engineer will also monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and observability of the services they own, contribute to technical discussions, and support shared engineering standards.

The role offers exposure to how a global fare payment platform operates at scale and hands-on experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka, AWS, and infrastructure as code. Requirements

• Clear, confident communication in written and spoken English.
• Solid commercial experience building backend systems in Java or Kotlin.
• Understanding of distributed systems and how to build for scale and reliability.
• Comfort designing and working with REST APIs and service-based or event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms; AWS is preferred.
• A thoughtful approach to code quality, testing, and maintainability.
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach, with willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
• Ability to explain technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with AWS.
• Familiarity with Java or Kotlin, event-driven architecture, RESTful APIs, Kafka, Terraform, Grafana, Gradle, Maven, and Git.
