About The Position

At SwitchDin, we’re building the software powering the energy transition. Our platform enables utilities, commercial energy users and technology partners to integrate and manage renewable energy, battery storage, electric vehicles and distributed energy resources at scale. From virtual power plants to microgrids, our technology helps create a cleaner, smarter and more resilient energy system. We’re an Australian technology company with a growing international presence across Europe and North America, and we’re looking for a highly organised Product Operations Manager to help our Product team operate at its best. About the role We build the optimisation engine that decides how distributed energy resources – batteries, solar and controllable loads – are dispatched across customer sites to minimise energy costs and maximise value. We’re looking for an optimisation engineer to own and advance that engine: the mathematical models, the market and forecasting inputs that feed them, and the data pipeline and reporting that prove the value delivered. This is a hands-on role for someone who’s equally comfortable formulating a linear program and shipping the code that runs it against live sites.

Requirements

  • Strong grounding in mathematical optimisation – linear/mixed-integer programming and solver experience
  • Proficiency in Python for both modelling and production code
  • Solid data engineering skills – working with large time-series/telemetry datasets, cloud data stores, and query layers
  • Comfort with forecasting / time-series modelling
  • An empirical, experiment-driven mindset with the discipline to validate results against real data
  • Clear communication – able to translate model behaviour and results for non-specialist stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in energy, DER, batteries, VPPs, or electricity markets (AEMO/NEM familiarity a strong plus)
  • Exposure to AWS data services (DynamoDB, S3, IoT Core) or similar
  • Experience building analytics dashboards / reporting for end customers
  • Background bridging research-style modelling and production software delivery

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve our optimisation algorithms – linear/mixed-integer programming for battery dispatch, demand-charge management, and grid import/export constraints (global and rolling-horizon formulations)
  • Model energy-market and tariff structures (wholesale/spot, retail tariffs, demand charges) and integrate market data feeds (e.g. AEMO dispatch/pre-dispatch)
  • Build and refine forecasting inputs, particularly PV generation and load forecasts, and wire them into the optimiser
  • Run site simulations and evaluations to validate performance, investigate anomalies, and quantify realised savings
  • Support the data pipeline behind the optimiser – data-lake queries, telemetry stores, and cloud data services
  • Roll out the optimiser to new and existing customer sites, and build the reporting/visualisations that communicate cost savings and ROI to stakeholders
  • Experiment rigorously – prototype, measure, and know when to discard an approach

Benefits

  • The opportunity to work on technology with real-world environmental impact
  • A collaborative, supportive and highly skilled team
  • Exposure to modern product management practices
  • Career growth into Product Management or Product Operations leadership
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements
  • Ongoing learning and development, including AI capability development
