About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving full lifecycle software development and infrastructure innovation. This role requires expertise in cloud-native architectures, AI/ML integration, and software design patterns to enhance engineering productivity and system resilience. You will mentor technical teams, influence architectural decisions, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. Your leadership will ensure high-quality, maintainable software that supports Walmart’s strategic objectives while fostering continuous improvement and technical excellence. The International Transactions team develops and maintains systems that enable seamless, high-availability checkout experiences across global markets. This team ensures customers can confidently amend orders post-purchase while protecting millions of transactions from fraud in real time. Positioned at the critical intersection of customer experience, financial integrity, and operational reliability, the team’s work directly impacts revenue, trust, and safety worldwide. Members apply expertise in platform design, API development, cloud-native architecture, and data-driven decision-making to deliver scalable, resilient solutions that support Walmart’s global operations and enhance the overall customer journey.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient platforms.
  • Strong software development skills with experience in full lifecycle ownership, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in API design, software prototyping, and applying software design patterns to create secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design reviews and mentor engineering teams to promote best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML components and developing intelligent automation using languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, or C++.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills to define metrics, optimize processes, and ensure engineering excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and intelligent automation features.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
  • Drive continuous improvement through innovation, error correction, and knowledge sharing.
