About The Position

Lumion is seeking a Software Engineer to join their team of 11 engineers building a platform for trade and technical schools. The role involves developing AI systems for lead generation and conversion, as well as working on financial aid workflows, admissions funnels, and critical infrastructure. The company is backed by TTV Capital and Tusk Venture Partners and is addressing the skilled trades shortage by providing an all-in-one operating system for educational institutions.

Requirements

  • Fluency with agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor).
  • Experience using AI tools to generate, refactor, and debug production code.
  • Strong fundamentals in data modeling, API design, and system architecture.
  • Ability to debug a production issue under pressure.
  • Product instinct and understanding of the importance of requirements related to student records, money, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to identify when AI output is incorrect and fix it.
  • Understanding of when a fast solution might be more expensive in the long run.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PHP and Laravel.
  • Familiarity with MySQL, Redis, vector databases (pgvector/Pinecone) for RAG, and queue-driven architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Building AI systems that qualify and convert prospective students at scale.
  • Working on financial aid workflows, including Title IV compliance and disbursement timing.
  • Developing admissions funnels across multiple integrations.
  • Maintaining and improving infrastructure that is critical for school operations.
  • Making technical decisions for platform development.
  • Debugging production issues under pressure.
