About The Position

As a Distinguished Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems, ensuring architectural integrity and operational excellence. You will translate strategic objectives into system-level solutions, drive continuous improvement, and foster a culture of technical excellence through mentorship and collaboration. The Marketplace Payments & Financial Services team enables seamless movement of money across Walmart Marketplace, ensuring transactions are fast, accurate, secure, and scalable for millions of sellers globally. The team operates across five core areas: seller payment experiences, capital and financing solutions, financial controls and compliance, next-generation payment infrastructure, and AI-driven data science. Collaborating closely, these areas drive innovation and operational excellence to support global commerce at scale, leveraging advanced technologies and cloud-native architectures to deliver reliable, secure, and efficient payment solutions.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in designing and developing scalable, cloud-native software systems and AI-powered platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead system-level technical execution with architectural integrity and operational excellence.
  • Strong expertise in software security, debugging, and problem-solving within complex distributed environments.
  • Demonstrated skill in driving continuous improvement through automation, tooling enhancements, and process optimization.
  • Effective coaching and mentorship capabilities to foster engineering excellence and innovation across teams.
  • Proficiency in applying DevOps and CI/CD principles to ensure resilient, observable, and performant services.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to align cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to evolving technologies and business needs with sound technical judgment and strategic vision.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
