About The Position

GDIT is hiring a Software Engineer Senior to develop and operate mission-critical capabilities supporting the Intelligence Community and national security. The role focuses on building distributed, event-driven software and orchestrating AI/ML workflows across containerized services and cloud environments. The engineer will design event-driven applications using message queues and streaming platforms; build Python microservices for Kubernetes; integrate cloud storage, compute orchestration, and serverless services; and coordinate multi-step AI/ML pipelines. The role also involves working with relational and NoSQL databases, developing RESTful APIs or gRPC services, writing production-quality Python, troubleshooting distributed systems, and implementing observability and operational controls. The position works collaboratively with Agile/Scrum delivery teams in a hybrid environment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Agile/Scrum delivery teams in hybrid environments.
  • Relevant skills include design, message queuing, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop event-driven applications using message queues and streaming platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS to orchestrate distributed AI/ML workflows.

  • Develop integrations with cloud services for storage, compute orchestration, and serverless functions, such as AWS S3, Lambda, and Step Functions, or equivalent GCP/Azure services.
  • Implement dynamic workflow orchestration and state management for multi-step AI/ML pipelines across containerized services.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL data stores, including query optimization, schema design, and connection pooling.
  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and/or gRPC services with error handling, authentication, and rate limiting.
  • Write production-quality Python code using best practices for testing, logging, error handling, and performance optimization.
  • Debug and troubleshoot distributed systems in production Kubernetes environments using observability tools to trace requests and identify bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers on deployment strategies, resource requirements, health checks, and scaling configurations.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and structured logging to support operational visibility and incident response.
