About The Position

PayPal, Inc. seeks a Software Engineer in San Jose, CA. This role involves architecting and maintaining software solutions that ensure compliance with international regulatory requirements and support large-scale financial crime investigations. The engineer will design, develop, and maintain web-based applications and backend services, utilizing programming languages such as React, JavaScript, and TypeScript. Responsibilities include developing, executing, and maintaining automated test cases, integrating them into CI/CD pipelines, and investigating, debugging, and resolving complex software issues, including production incidents and performance bottlenecks, to ensure the stability of compliance-critical applications. Collaboration with product managers, compliance experts, quality engineers, and senior developers is key to translating regulatory requirements into technical solutions. The role also includes participating in code reviews, enforcing coding standards, contributing to technical design discussions, and authoring/maintaining technical documentation. Researching and adopting emerging technologies, frameworks, and development tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the compliance platform is also expected. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain software solutions that enable compliance with international regulatory requirements and support large-scale financial crime investigations.
  • Design, develop, and maintain web-based applications and backend services using programming languages such as React, JavaScript, TypeScript.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain automated test cases and integrate them into continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Investigate, debug, and resolve complex software issues, including production incidents and performance bottlenecks, ensuring compliance-critical applications remain stable.
  • Collaborate with product managers, compliance experts, quality engineers, and senior developers to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards, and contribute to technical design discussions.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation covering system architecture, design decisions.
  • Research and adopt emerging technologies, frameworks, and development tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of compliance platform.
