Software Engineer
About The Position
Leidos is seeking a talented Flight Software Engineer to join their Defense Sector in Huntsville, Alabama. This role involves developing software for tactical strike, sensors, autonomy, CUAS, and UAS solutions. The position focuses on creating robust software frameworks and supporting fielded software products, including analysis tools, mission planning software, and components of mission-critical systems. Potential development areas include embedded computing technologies like drivers, flash memory, bootloaders, board support packages, PCBs, JTAG, real-time operating systems (RTOS), single board computers, SoCs, and hardware interfaces/protocols.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent technical degree with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- 2-4 years of relevant technical experience with a BS degree or 0-2 years of experience with a MS degree.
- Proven track record of implementing software development principles.
- Strong competency in software development in either C/C++, Java, C#, Rust, or Python programming languages.
- Expected to participate in peer reviews and accept constructive feedback from more senior software team members.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests with unit test frameworks.
- Aptitude for the technical skills required for software development, configuration management, and software quality engineering concepts.
- Strong analytical and process improvement skills along with a personal drive for details and quality workmanship.
- Aptitude for the technical skills required for software test and software quality engineering concepts.
- Aptitude with Linux and Windows operating systems and their respective development tools/IDEs, scripts, debuggers, and administrative features.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and use of one or more Agile tools, such as Gitlab Ultimate, Atlassian Jira, Trello, or Monday.com.
- Demonstrate familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to the Huntsville-North Alabama area.
- Must possess a secret clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with applicable industry standards (IEEE 12207, CMMI, DO-178C and/or DO-278, RMF) is a plus.
- Interest and/or experience in software development using AI tools is also a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust C/C++ embedded software under the oversight of a senior software developer.
- Assist with creating and executing unit and integration tests on software components.
- Perform as part of an agile software development team for tasking and progress reporting.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge with the team.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues and bugs in a timely manner.
- Other software development duties as assigned.
- Use GitLab software pipeline for performing configuration management, continuous integration, and automated testing.
- Direct communication with customers, end users, and team members will be required on a frequent basis.
