About The Position

Zions Bancorporation is transforming what it means to work for a financial institution. We operate in a fast-paced, information-driven environment and need people who bring diverse experiences, perspectives, and technical curiosity to meet evolving business and customer needs. As a Software Engineering Intern, you will contribute to technology solutions that support our customers, employees, and business operations. Depending on your assignment, you may help build or enhance applications, APIs, platforms, data solutions, automation, cloud capabilities, or internal engineering tools. AI-assisted and agentic software development will be an important part of your internship experience. You will learn how modern engineering teams use AI coding assistants and software agents to understand requirements, explore solutions, develop and review code, create tests, troubleshoot issues, document systems, and automate development workflows. You will also learn how strong engineering fundamentals, security, responsible AI practices, and human judgment are applied to validate AI-generated outcomes. This is an opportunity to contribute meaningful work, learn from experienced engineers, experiment with emerging technologies, and demonstrate the results of your work.

  • Exposure to prompt design, context engineering, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation, or agent workflows.
  • Experience with automated testing, code-quality tools, security scanning, or software evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Linux, command-line tools, or modern development environments.
  • A GitHub portfolio, class project, hackathon solution, open-source contribution, or personal project that demonstrates applied learning and technical curiosity.
  • Interest in using technology to improve customer experiences, employee productivity, business processes, or engineering effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and enhance software solutions that address business, customer, or technology needs.
  • Use AI coding assistants and agentic development tools across the software development lifecycle.
  • Translate requirements and user needs into clear, maintainable, and reliable software.
  • Develop software using languages, frameworks, and platforms appropriate to your assigned team and project.
  • Create automated tests and evaluate AI-generated or agent-generated code for accuracy, security, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Review AI-generated recommendations critically and validate outputs before incorporating them into software solutions.
  • Debug technical issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, team meetings, demonstrations, and product development activities.
  • Create clear technical documentation for software, processes, and users.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback to improve the quality and usability of solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product partners, business stakeholders, and other interns.
  • Work within established engineering practices, including source control, testing, code review, CI/CD, documentation, and iterative delivery.
