About The Position

PayPal Data Services, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of PayPal, Inc., seeks a Software Engineer in Austin, TX. This role involves defining, designing, and implementing complex, multi-tier distributed software applications, with a focus on high throughput back-end systems. The engineer will develop object-oriented software, design, code, and test complex software features, and lead code review sessions. Responsibilities include analyzing and addressing support requests from web engineers, building and maintaining sustainable, automated software processes for technical debt remediation, and interfacing with the web software platform engineering team to influence the backlog and roadmap. The role also requires interfacing with other platform software application teams to ensure a seamless support experience for web engineers. The engineer will build performance-efficient, highly scalable, configurable, and available software applications and systems, segmenting technical system layers to support componentized development. Identifying and fixing performance, scalability, and other live software issues in a time-critical environment, as well as identifying and recommending ways to reduce software project risks, are key aspects of this position. Collaboration with other engineers, managers, product management, quality analysts, and operations teams is essential to develop innovative technical solutions that meet market needs. Additionally, the role includes designing and implementing user interfaces using frontend frameworks, integrating APIs to fetch and manipulate data, optimizing UI performance and accessibility, implementing responsive design principles, and interacting with backend engineers to design APIs. Monitoring and supporting technical requests to provide ideal solutions is also part of the job. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field plus one year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Developing, testing, and maintaining software components and features of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elastic Container Services (ECS).
  • On-call incident management, utilizing monitoring tools and logs, and collaborating with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
  • Java for backend development and worked with TypeScript and Ruby for various software solutions.
  • Develop and maintain web applications using JavaScript, jQuery, and AngularJS, including the migration of web pages from jQuery to Angular frameworks (1 year).
  • Design and implement responsive web interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, ensuring adherence to UI guidelines across applications (1 year).
  • Develop complex SQL stored procedures, triggers, HIVE queries, and PL/SQL functions such as views and packages to optimize query performance (1 year).
  • Design and build data infrastructure for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes using SQL, AWS, and big data technologies (1 year).
  • Design and maintain distributed systems using Docker and microservices architecture for scalable deployments (1 year).
  • Java, applying OOP principles to develop robust software applications (1 year).
  • Implement unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using frameworks such as Mocha and Jest (1 year).

Responsibilities

  • Work with other engineers, managers, product management, quality analysts, and operations teams to develop innovative technical solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, availability, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to software development goals and principles.
  • Design and implement user interfaces using frontend frameworks to create engaging and intuitive web software applications.
  • Integrate APIs (Application Programming Interface) into the frontend to fetch and manipulate data from servers.
  • Optimize UI (User Interface) performance and ensure accessibility for users with different needs.
  • Implement various responsive software design principles to ensure that web applications are optimized.
  • Interact with backend software engineers to design APIs and ensure the productive flow between the frontend and backend.
  • Monitor and support technical requests to provide ideal solutions to the technology use cases.
