About The Position

felixforyou.ca is the primary touchpoint for over 500,000 Canadians interacting with Felix. It serves as the top of the funnel, the SEO surface, and the platform where marketing, brand, and growth initiatives are implemented. As a Software Engineer on the Dotcom team, you will work on this critical surface, which includes a custom WordPress block theme, its underlying design system, custom blocks used by the Marketing team for page creation, and associated internal tooling for experimentation, analytics reporting, content import pipelines, and QA automation. This role is on a small team, offering broad responsibilities and significant input into the development process. You will be responsible for taking designs from Figma to production and developing tools to streamline future development.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in modern PHP 8+ and building custom WordPress themes and plugins, with deep knowledge of block themes, the block editor, custom blocks, theme.json, custom post types, and the WP data layer.
  • Proficiency in semantic, accessible HTML and CSS at scale, including design systems, design tokens, utility-first patterns, and responsive layout.
  • Strong vanilla JavaScript (ES6+) and Web Components skills.
  • Solid MySQL experience, including schema design, query writing and reading, indexing, and diagnosing slow queries.
  • Experience building APIs (REST, authentication, versioning, error handling) and integrating third-party APIs.
  • Familiarity with tooling and environments such as Docker for local development, Vite (or similar modern bundler) and npm for the asset pipeline, and a Git-based workflow with code review and CI/CD.
  • Experience translating Figma designs into pixel-accurate, accessible interfaces without hardcoding.
  • Practical experience with Core Web Vitals, asset optimization, caching, structured data, and technical SEO.
  • Comfort with implementing event tracking and running or supporting A/B tests, and analyzing results.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a small team, explaining technical tradeoffs to non-engineering stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building with LLM APIs or using AI tooling for development acceleration and process automation.
  • Familiarity with Cloudflare (DNS, caching, page rules, WAF, Workers).
  • Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with Laravel or another modern PHP framework outside of WordPress.
  • Experience with Vue.js or another modern JS framework for internal tools and admin interfaces.
  • Experience migrating a marketing site between platforms (e.g., Webflow, Contentful to WordPress).
  • Experience with Headless or hybrid WordPress, or WordPress REST/GraphQL API work.
  • Experience handling private healthcare data or working in a regulated/compliance-sensitive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ship pages, blocks, and templates within our custom WordPress block theme, translating Figma designs into reusable, tokenized components.
  • Contribute to the theme architecture, custom Gutenberg blocks, and custom plugins to enhance the editing experience for the Marketing team.
  • Develop surrounding tools such as an experimentation framework, analytics and reporting pipelines, content importers, and automated QA.
  • Build and consume APIs to facilitate data transfer between the website and other business systems, analytics platforms, and third-party tools.
  • Optimize website performance and SEO, focusing on Core Web Vitals, asset delivery, structured data, and technical SEO.
  • Implement and maintain tracking (GTM, Segment, GA4) and A/B tests to support data-driven decision-making by the Growth team.
  • Collaborate with Design, Marketing, and SEO teams to scope work, provide technical feedback, and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to raising the technical standards of the team.
